Can food grade silicone utensils be used in a microwave?

Food grade silicone utensil can usually be used in microwave ovens because this material has good high temperature resistance, and can generally withstand temperatures ranging from -40 ℃ to 230 ℃. Some high-quality silicone can even withstand higher temperatures. It does not release harmful substances during the heating process, nor does it melt or deform at high temperatures like some plastics, so heating food in a microwave is usually safe.
The thermal stability of silicone makes it very suitable for heating solid or liquid food in microwave ovens, especially in heating scenarios such as baby food and convenient fast food, where it is frequently used. Compared to ceramics or glass, one significant advantage of it is its lightweight and resistance to breakage, making it very suitable for daily household use and outdoor carrying.

There are several points to note before use. Firstly, make sure that the utensil you are using is genuine food grade silicone and has passed authoritative certifications such as FDA or LFGB, as inferior silicone may contain fillers and may release harmful substances at high temperatures. Secondly, even high-quality silicone should avoid air burning when using a microwave oven to prevent local overheating and deformation. In addition, it is not recommended to put silicone utensil with metal accessories in the microwave to avoid sparking or damaging the equipment.

As long as the utensil is clearly labeled as food grade and can be used in a microwave oven, it can be safely used in a microwave environment. However, after use, attention should still be paid to timely cleaning to avoid surface contamination or odor accumulation caused by high temperature oil or food residue. Proper use and maintenance can maintain good performance and safety of silicone utensil in the microwave oven.
